Jesuit Journeys Winter 2000
Celebrating with our Jesuit Partners
|
Fr. Richard McGarrity, SJ (right), president of the Jesuit Partnership, and Fr. Provincial Ed Mathie, SJ concelebrate Mass during an Oct. 24, 1999 gathering of about 200 benefactors and Jesuits at Marquette University in Milwaukee. A reception and program followed the Mass. Similar gatherings were held in the Twin Cities earlier in October and in Omaha, Nebraska on Jan. 22, 2000. The events offer opportunities for the Jesuits to meet with Partners, update them on activities, and express gratitude for the prayers and financial support given the Society of Jesus in the Upper Midwest and Great Plains. |

Come and see
Fr. Len Altilia, SJ celebrates a Mass at the novitiate in St. Paul, Minnesota for a group of men expressing interest in becoming Jesuits. Called a "Come and See Weekend," the program is designed to more fully inform prospective candidates to the priesthood and brotherhood about life as a Jesuit. Inquiries about vocations as a Jesuit priest or Brother can be directed to Fr. Warren Sazama, SJ, vocation director, at 800-537-3736. His e-mail address is vocations@jesuitswisprov.org - or write to him at 3400 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53208. |

Promising to share the mission
Jerry Heinrichs and other Ignatian Associate community leaders anoint the newly promised associates (from left) Hugh McManus, Katie McManus, Tim Leacock, Ruth Leacock, and Donna Eddy at St. John's Church on the Creighton University Campus in September 1999. Begun in 1992 as an innovative extension of the 450-year Jesuit tradition of service to our Church, associates are Catholic adults, married and single, dedicated to sharing the Good News of Christ in partnership with the Society of Jesus. As with the Jesuits, availability for mission is the defining characteristic of an associate. |
