Jesuit Journeys Fall 2001
Around the Province
Friends, family, Jesuits gather for First Vows
It's time to leave the novitiate and move on to first studies, the next stage of formation for these young Jesuits - (from left) John Farrell, SJ, Tom Neitzke, SJ, Kevin Dyer, SJ, and Elton Fernandes, SJ. All four pronounced first vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience at the Church of St. Luke in St. Paul, Minnesota on August 11. Tom and John are Wisconsin Province Jesuits. Kevin and Elton are from the Missouri and Upper Canada Provinces respectively. More than 250 friends, family, and Jesuits attended the ceremony, Mass, and reception to celebrate and share the joy and holiness of the day.
Taking his vocation
to St. Paul
Fr. Patrick Malone, SJ leaves the Church of the Gesu in Milwaukee after his Mass of Ordination. He is followed up the aisle by Fr. Rick Abert, SJ (left), the Most Reverend Rembert Weakland, OSB, archbishop of Milwaukee, and Fr. Provincial James Grummer, SJ. Fr. Malone's first assignment as priest is in St. Paul, Minnesota as an associate pastor at the Church of St. Luke and campus minister at Macalester College.
Honoring years of service to others
Fr. Robert G. North (photo right) holds his award for 70 years of service in the Society of Jesus. He was among more than 30 Wisconsin Province Jesuits recognized during Province Days at Marquette University in June. Four Jesuits (bottom) received awards for 65 years in the Society. They are (left to right) Fr. Robert W. Lambeck, SJ, Fr. Earl Kurth, SJ, Fr. Leo Sweeney, SJ, and Fr. Martin O. Vaske, SJ. Other Jesuits were honored for 60 and 50 years in the Society and for 50 years in the priesthood.
