Dear Friends,
While visiting the Marquette University Jesuit community, I heard three Jesuit students present
their perceptions of December’s devastating tsunami. Each came from one of the affected areas:
Sri Lanka, southwestern India, and Indonesia; each used the skills of his academic discipline –
pastoral counseling, psychological therapy, and computer science – to give their different
viewpoints of relief efforts.
Their presentation reminded me yet again that the Society of Jesus includes fine men from
around the world with wonderful talents to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed. I was reminded
too of my gratitude for the generosity of people like you who make our work possible because of
your prayerful, affective, and financial support.
The Wisconsin Province has depended on cooperation between Jesuits and benefactors since
our beginnings in 1955. This special edition of Jesuit Journeys
charts the path of those 50 years charts the path of those 50 years and suggests where we hope to go next. I thank the many people who helped compile, publish,
and provide this retrospective.
As I prepare to get my office ready for Fr. Tom Krettek, SJ to take over as provincial, I also thank
you for your support of me, of my brother Jesuits and colleagues, and of all the Jesuit works of the
upper Midwest as we seek the greater honor and glory of God for many more years to come.
Your brother in the Lord,
