Dear Friends,
In one of the key prayer periods of the Spiritual Exercises, Saint Ignatius asks the retreatant to imagine the Trinity looking down upon the world. An expansively vast and cosmic perspective on the diversity of the universe narrows to individual people in individual circumstances until one imagines Mary praying quietly in her home in Nazareth. The infinite and majestic God who transcends space and time chooses to come among us as a specific Child with a specific history.
God continues to come among us in the most amazingly specific ways. Although exotic or unusual settings may sometimes make it easier for us to recognize the Lord, the power of globalization should not distract us from the reality that God is closer than the next breath.
I hope the stories in this issue of Jesuit Journeys will enable you to recognize that the Lord will enable you to recognize that the Lord is constantly revealing Himself when we open our eyes to recognize Him.
Your brother in the Lord,
