The journey to join the Society of Jesus has begun for eight men from the Wisconsin Province, as they began their training as Jesuit novices. The men were accepted into the novitiate at St. Paul beginning about 10 years of study and training to become priests or brothers and full members of the Jesuit community.
Summer is the perfect time to enjoy boating and swinging out into a lake. It’s also a perfect time for reflecting on your life. All these activities were enjoyed to the hilt at the annual Summer Vocations Days.
The group this year included 14 young men from high school to early college who joined six Jesuits in central Wisconsin to learn more about Jesuit life.
A standing-room-only gathering on a sweltering night at St. John’s Church on the Creighton University campus in Omaha, Neb. welcomed Fr. Christopher Collins, SJ and Fr. Daniel Hendrickson, S.J as they were ordained to the priesthood June 9.

OMAHA –-A group of 21 candidates from the Wisconsin Province who are considering life as a Jesuit priest or Brother participated in the annual vocations Come and See Discernment Retreat at the Sheehan Archdiocesan Retreat Center
Seventeen candidates from the Wisconsin, Missouri, and Upper Canada Jesuit Provinces joined the 18 Jesuit novices, three Jesuit Vocation Directors, and two novice directors for a Weekend at our three-Province Jesuit Novitiate in St. Paul, Minnesota the weekend of October 7-9.

PAUL – Five young men accepted as novices by the
Wisconsin Province of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits)
entered the Jesuit St. Paul Novitiate in August for
their first of about 10 years of studies and training
to become priests. In all, 10 new novices arrived at
the novitiate, which is also shared by the Upper Canada
and Missouri provinces.
They join eight returning second-year novices, bringing the total number of novices in St. Paul to 18 for the 2005-06 year.
Eight
candidates for the Jesuits recently took part in
the Six Weeks a Jesuit program held in Milwaukee
and Chicago. The program is designed to give the
men a taste of Jesuit life by living in a Jesuit
Community and working in a Jesuit-related ministry
during the summer. The experience helps them determine
if becoming a Jesuit might be right for them.
Finding
the place where high Mass and high art meet
Fr.
Grant Garinger surely would have been inclined towards the communication
arts, even if Fr. General hadn’t made the call for them.
Now 40, and a member of the Society for 19 years, Garinger is
still incorporating religion and art into his vocation.

Fr.
Will Prospero, SJ is in his third year as a member of Marquette's
University Ministry staff. His duties run the gamut, from confirmation
and marriage preparation to spiritual direction, religious vocations,
students for life and being the minister for a residence hall
on campus. He is 37 years old, a graduate of both Marquette High
School and University, always in motion and ready for anything.
