FINDING GOD IN THE STARS
Jesuit Partnership President Fr. Richard McGarrity, SJ (second from left) and Fr. George Coyne, SJ (second from right) are joined by sponsors of a special presentation by Fr. Coyne in Milwaukee on “What Science can Tell us About the Nature of God.” A former Harvard researcher and a National Science Foundation lecturer, Fr. Coyne was appointed director of the Vatican Observatory in 1978. He fascinated a crowd of more than 400 friends, benefactors, and Jesuits who came to the Marquette University Alumni Memorial Union Ballroom in August to hear him speak. One of the oldest astronomical research centers in the world, the observatory is headquartered in Castel Gandolfo, Italy, and is affiliated with a research center and observatory at the University of Arizona, Tuscon, where Fr. Coyne teaches astronomy for five months a year.
