Spring Come and See Weekend held at novitiate
Eleven
candidates from the Wisconsin, Missouri, and Upper Canada
Jesuit Provinces joined eight first-year Jesuit novices for
a weekend at our three-Province Jesuit Novitiate in St. Paul,
Minnesota, March 31 – April 2. Also participating were
two novice directors, two Jesuit vocation directors, and Fr.
Thomas Lawler, SJ, who in July will become the new vocation
director for the Wisconsin Province. The candidates got a
taste of Jesuit novice life, to see if they might want to
apply to the novitiate next year. The novices themselves had
created the weekend agenda, sharing their Saturday morning
work period with their visitors, hosting candid discussion
of Jesuit life (with no staff or vocation directors present),
sharing meals and cleanup. There was plenty of time for prayer
– public and private – as well as daily Mass celebration.
The visiting candidates also met with the novice directors
to hear about the novitiate program from their perspective.
