Summer is the perfect time to enjoy boating and swinging out into a lake. It’s also a perfect time for reflecting on your life. All these activities were enjoyed to the hilt at the annual Summer Vocations Days.
The group this year included 14 young men from high school to early college who joined six Jesuits in central Wisconsin to learn more about Jesuit life.
“We had a great time! The young men had a chance to ask questions and learn more about the Jesuits,” said Fr. Tom Lawler, SJ, Wisconsin Province vocations director. “They also played some spirited soccer games.”
The daily program included a two-hour morning session with Mass and another two-hour session each afternoon. The sessions included presentations from young Jesuits in training on why and how they became a Jesuit, the meaning and experience of the vows Jesuits take, the Jesuit training, a question box, small group discussions, and a showing of The Mission, about early Jesuit missionaries in South America.
The remainder of each day was devoted to relaxation and fun activities on and around the lake including water skiing, rope swing, canoeing, swimming, soccer and other outdoor and indoor activities.
Next summer’s Waupaca Vocation Days will be held from June 22-26, 2007. If you’re a sophomore in college or younger and considering the possibility that God might be calling you to be a Jesuit, please join us.
